AIKEN, S C -- THAYER TONER, 81, beloved husband of Karen Sutton Toner, died Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
A native of Shelbyville, IN, Thayer was a son of the late Morris and Delores Hey Toner. He graduated from Shelbyville High School and received his bachelor's degree from Indiana University. He was a veteran of the US Air Force Security Service and was a Russian translator during the Korean War. He also served in the Indiana National Guard. He was also a graduate of Thunderbird Institute of Foreign Trade and subsequently worked in International Banking, living in Bogota, Colombia. Thayer traveled the world and lived in Naples, FL for over 30 years and Inverness, FL before moving to Aiken in 2006.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Karen, include a daughter, Chelsea Toner, Aiken, SC a grandson, Jamison Preachers, a brother, Spencer Toner, Naples, FL and two nephews, Bill Toner and Kevin Toner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Amy Toner Jones.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 26, 2010 at 1:30 PM at Christ Church Unity, 2301 Central Ave., Augusta, GA. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 at the church.
