Aiken- Okey Palmer Perkins, 86 , died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, at his residence.
Okey was born in Braxton County, West Virginia to the late Charles and Flora Perkins.
A graduate of the Merchant Marine Academy, he served his country as a merchant marine during World War II. After the war, he returned to West Virginia, married his high school sweetheart, Sarah, and started working with E. I. Dupont in Belle, WV. He transferred to Aiken, with Dupont, in 1952 where he worked as a power supervisor until he retired in 1984.
He was a member of St.John's United Methodist Church. He was active in youth sports in his earlier years, touching the lives of many young men. Okey enjoyed gardening and other outdoor activities. In his later years he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving is wife of 64 years, Sarah S. Perkins, four sons, Nick(Sungae) of Savannah, GA, Rick(Cendy) of Waverly, GA, Cam(Hope) of Douglas, GA, Tim(Mary Mark) of Aiken, twelve grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday, Dec.30th, at St. John's United Methodist Church. a reception will be held in Ward Hall immediately following the service.
