AIKEN - Mr. Paul Eugene Edel, 59, died peacefully Sunday, January 2, 2011 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 PM Thursday at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church with the Reverend Joseph S. Whitehurst officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, and the family will then receive friends in the Stevenson-McClelland building. Pallbearers will be his nephews, his brothers-in-law and Rob Lytle. Honorary pallbearers will be the Mead Hall Board of Directors. Mr. Edel was born in Conneaut, OH, a son of Florence DeNunzio Jabaily, Conneaut, OH, and the late Joseph Eugene Edel. He received a Masters Degree in Industrial Engineering and was in Strategic Development at University Hospital. He was a Vestry Member at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church and Chairman of the Board at Mead Hall School. Mr. Edel was also a past Scout Master for Troop #146 and was a member of St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church. He documented his journey with cancer to help others. This can be accessed at www.endureandshine.blogspot.com In addition to his mother, he is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Philipp Edel and son Christopher Philipp Edel, Aiken; his daughter, Sarah Elizabeth (Tom) Morse, Memphis, TN; sons, Joseph Paul Edel, Ashville, NC, Dr. Matthew Thomas Edel, Philadelphia, PA; a granddaughter, Lila Beth Morse; a sister, Ann Marie (Clyde) Laughlin, Conneaut, OH; nephews, Richard Andrew Philipp, Charleston, SC, Patrick Christopher Philipp, Clemson, SC, Crawford Philipp Anderson and Loughlin Philipp Anderson, Aiken; nieces, Kathleen Measel and Abigail Kauppila of Conneaut, OH, Hallie Philipp Anderson, Aiken; father and mother-in-law, Richard F. and Arline Philipp; sister-in-law, Dr. Mary Katherine Philipp (Dr. Jonathan Anderson); brother-in-law, Richard Andrew Philipp (Gabrielle) of Aiken.
