AIKEN - Mr. Malcolm Norwood Dailey, age 92, of 824 Magnolia St. SE died Wednesday, January 5, 2011.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 8th at at 11 a.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church, Aiken, with Dr. George Howle and Rev. Keith Stewart officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in Ward Hall.
Mr. Dailey was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Dailey of West Blocton, Alabama. He was predeceased by a brother.
Mr. Dailey was a graduate of the University of Alabama with a BS degree in Commerce and Business Administration. Following graduation he worked for Texaco Oil Company in the regional office in Atlanta. During the years he and his family lived in Atlanta, they were members of First Methodist Church where he was treasurer of the church and served on the Administrative Board. He has been a member of St. John's, Aiken for over fifty years and served his church as past chairman of the Council on Ministries, Staff Parish Committee, Finance Committee, Endowment Committee and the Administrative Board. He was also president of the Walter Johnson Sunday School class.
In 2005 Mr. Dailey was proud that he could be a part of the formation of the St. John's Visitation Ministry. He spent many hours with the help of his walking cane visiting St. John's members who were ill or in need.
For many years Mr. Dailey owned and operated Dailey Oil Company which he sold in 1980. During his years in business he served on the National Oil Jobbers Committee in Washington, D. C. representing the State of South Carolina Oil Jobbers. He was also a part of numerous civic and community activities. He served on the United Way Planning Board, was a past member of the Aiken Rotary Club and a past president of the Aiken Business Men's Club. He also enjoyed the fellowship of the Aiken Downtown Coffee Club.
In his younger years Mr. Dailey's hobbies included golf and calling square dances. He was a charter member of Houndslake Country Club, enjoyed the Aiken Assembly Dance Club and served as its president.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 70 years, Jewel, and a daughter, Judy (Ron) Jernigan of Aiken. He is survived by two grandchildren--Stephanie (Chris) Reeves of Durham, NC and Drew (Amy) Jernigan of Aiken; plus five great granddaughters and one great grandson. Other survivors include nieces and nephews.
