Douglas C. Pressnell

NEW ELLENTON, SC -- DOUGLAS C. PRESSNELL, 87, beloved husband of Edith Pressnell, died Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at his residence. A native of Athens, AL, Mr. Pressnell was a son of the late J. C. and Ruth Moorehead Pressnell. He was a graduate of Athens Limestone College and played catcher for the Athens, AL semi-pro baseball team during the 1950's. He served in the U. S. Air Force during World War II. Mr. Pressnell moved to Aiken in 1953 and went to work with DuPont at the Savannah River Plant. He retired as a supervisor in the engineering department. He was a member of the Church of Christ, and served several years as an Elder. Mr. Pressnell enjoyed hunting and fishing and was the last surviving charter member and past president of the Euwana Boating Club in Plum Branch, SC. After his retirement from DuPont, he was hired by the State of South Carolina to create a course and write the curriculum for Computerized Machine Lathes, which he taught at Aiken and Denmark Technical Colleges. Survivors include his wife Edith, a son, Gary D. (Martha) Pressnell, Wilmington, NC, three daughters; Marcia P. Glover, New Ellenton, Cindy (Murl) Augustine, New Ellenton and Mary Jane (Dennis) Brooks, New Ellenton and Rock Hill., eight grandchildren; Troy Pressnell, Joey Pressnell, Tim Pressnell, Natasha Glover, Mandy (Lee) Sims, Bobby Augustine, Whitney Roberts and Tyler Roberts, four great-grandchildren; Caleb Pressnell, Kylei Walker, Baylee Sims and Madison Cooney, two brothers; James Orell (Dot) Pressnell, Birmingham, AL and Virgil (Kathryn) Pressnell, Dalton, GA and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Saturday at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 PM at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home, with Chaplain Mark Hudson officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery.
