AIKEN, SC - Helen Christine Harmon, 78, died January 7 at home after a valiant fight against cancer. She is preceded in death by her son, James Harmon, and granddaughter, Alaina Arani. She is survived by her beloved husband of fifty-four years, Russell Harmon; and three daughters; Mary Harmon (David), Sharon Rowell (Chris) and Donna Harmon (David). She is also survived by eight grandchildren; Michael and David Foster of Atlanta, GA; Alexia Arani of Aiken; Christopher, Stephen, and Helen Rowell of Aiken; and Dylan and Russell Spearman of Atlanta, GA.
Born in Little Chute, Wisconsin, she was the daughter of the late John C. and Elizabeth Hietpas. She moved to Aiken with her family in 1968. She was a member of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church where she taught youth CCD classes. She attended USC-Aiken and was a Beta Club inductee. She was active in community service projects. She held several executive positions with the Aiken County Heart Board, and was active within the American Red Cross Blood Drives and the American Cancer Society. Among friends and family, she was known for her culinary and baking skills, her quick wit, her love of life, and her endless devotion toward those she loved.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life at the family home on Wednesday, January 12 from 5-8 PM. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Aiken, on Thursday, January 13 at 11:00 AM with The Rev. Father James L. LeBlanc officiating. Interment will take place in St. John's Cemetery in Little Chute, WI at a later date.
