AIKEN – Mr. Joseph Harold Dickson, Jr. died Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at his home after a long illness. A native of Pittsburgh, PA, Mr. Dickson was a graduate of Carnegie Tech with a MS in chemical engineering. He served as a Lieutenant in the Army Corps of Engineers in the Philippine Islands in WWII. An engineer with DuPont since 1948, Mr. Dickson worked in Wilmington, DE, and at Knolls Atomic Laboratory, Schenectady, NY before coming to the Savannah River Plant in Aiken in 1952. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Aiken and was for many years a mainstay of the Aiken Contract Duplicate Bridge Club. He is predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Doreen Clare Barry Dickson, whom he met in college and married while on furlough from the Army in 1945, and by his sister, Mary Jane Dickson Matter of Fairfield, OH. Survivors include two daughters, Christina Dickson of Black Mountain, NC, Mary Jane Cuneo and husband John, of Haverhill, MA; a son, Barry Bishop Dickson of Augusta, GA; two grandsons, Jack Cuneo and Will Cuneo; and devoted caregiver, Beatrice Ryan. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday, April 9 in the Shellhouse Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Bethany Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Shellhouse Funeral Home, Inc., 924 Hayne Ave., Aiken, SC.
