AIKEN - Dr. Frank E. Driggers passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2011, at his home in Aiken, South Carolina. Dr. Driggers was born at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas on December 14, 1919 to Carl E. Driggers and Irene Davis Driggers. He was 91 at the time of his death. He received his Undergraduate degree from the University of California at Berkeley, California and his Masters and Doctoral degrees from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He came to Aiken in 1953 to work at the Savannah River Laboratory as a physicist and was employed there throughout his career. He was assigned temporarily to atomic energy facilities in Chalk River, Ontario, Canada (1963-1964) and in Oak Ridge, Tennessee (1966-1967). He returned to Savannah River Laboratory for the remainder of his career. Dr. Driggers was a longstanding member of the American Nuclear Society (ANS) and was honored as an ANS Fellow. He was a man of varied interests—square dancing, golf, skiing, mountain climbing, skin diving, and spelunking. He is survived by his wife Jane Robertson Driggers of Texarkana, Arkansas; daughters Jane Patricia Gooch of Dallas, Texas, and Ann Driggers Lewis (Bill) of Atlanta, Georgia; sister Mary Driggers Wheat of Albuquerque, New Mexico and brother Ted Driggers of Orca Island, Washington. He is also survived by granddaughters Cheryl Bush (Jason) of Spring, Texas, and Melanie Keough (Daniel) of Dallas, Texas; great grandchildren Willow and Nathan Bush, and Keegan and Kennedy Keough; step grandchildren Richard Lewis (Krista) of Mooresville, North Caroline, and Amy Lewis Lukehart of Waleska, Georgia. Dr Driggers was beloved by his family, to whom he was devoted. Memorials may be made in his name to the University of California at Berkeley, California or the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Arrangements have been made for a private funeral.
