L. Karl Dernetz

AIKEN, SC -- L. KARL DERNETZ, 62, beloved husband of Linda Cyr Dernetz, died Saturday, February 19, 2011 at MUSC Hospital, Charleston, SC. A native of Baltimore, MD, Mr. Dernetz was a son of the late Joseph Conrad and Mildred Lydia Wheeler Dernetz. He served in the U.S. Navy as a submariner for 10 years as a machinist mate. He had lived in Aiken since 1989, and retired last year, after 33 years, from Bechtel. Survivors, in addition to his wife Linda, include a son, Michael Dernetz, two grandsons; Brendon and Jaron Halstead, all of Aiken, and two brothers; J. Wayne Dernetz, Del Mar, CA and R. Chris Dernetz, Towson, MD. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home. Funeral services will be private.
