Rosman, N.C. - Bill S. McAlister, Sr. passed away at the Four Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care’s Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, NC on Thursday, April 26, 2007 after a brave battle with cancer. Born on August 4, 1936 in Rugby, Texas, Bill was the son of the late Jimmie and Burris McAlister. Bill is survived by his wife, DeLane, of Rosman, NC; son, Billy S. McAlister, Jr. of Barnwell, SC; daughter, Kimberly McAlister of Columbia, SC; stepdaughter, Didi Caldwell Abi-Arrage of Travelers Rest, SC; grandson, Derrick J. McAlister of USC-Columbia; step-grandsons, Gabriel M. and Jonas A. Abi-Arrage of Travelers Rest, SC. He was predeceased by a son, G. Michael McAlister. Bill worked for 39 years at the Savannah River Site in Aiken, SC for E.I. Dupont, Westinghouse and Bechtel. He retired from Bechtel in 1993 as Plant Design Lead Engineer responsible for directing drafting and design activities for Savannah River Technologies Center. Throughout his career and into retirement, Bill was also a residential designer rendering architectural drawings for clients in many areas of South Carolina. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 29, 2007 at 3:30 at Shellhouse Funeral Home, Hayne Ave, in Aiken SC with visitation immediately following the service. An informal, outdoor memorial service will be held at Pretty Place in Camp Greenville, Cedar Mountain, NC on Saturday, May 5, 2007 at 4:30.
