Aiken, SC – Gail Minton Hendrick, 76, beloved wife of Tanner "Dixie" Hendrick, III, died Sunday, March 20, 2011 at her home in Aiken, SC. A native of Palatka, FL, Mrs. Hendrick was a daughter of the late W.H and Byrnice Clair Herring Minton, Jr. She graduated from the University of Florida with a BA in Education and was an officer in the ZTA Sorority and sang in the University Choir. She taught in the public school systems in Florida and Texas. She was a former volunteer at the Alfred I. DuPont Children's Hospital in Wilminghton, DE. Gail had lived in Aiken for 30 years, and was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church. She was an outstanding seamstress, had a strong interest in gardening and cooking, and was a huge sports fan, particularly the Florida Gators, Dallas Cowboys, and Atlanta Braves. She loved to travel and over the years has seen most of the United States and enjoyed traveling to other parts of the world, among her favorites was Australia. She was a Jazz enthusiast and especially enjoyed playing the alto sax. With her outgoing personality, she never met a stranger. She was a charter member of Houndslake Garden Club. Survivors, in addition to her husband Dixie, include two sons ; Jeffrey Tanner (Catherine) Hendrick, Decatur, GA, and Kendall Blake (Laura) Hendrick, Bald Head Island, NC and Tucson, AZ, a granddaughter Tanner Katelyn Hendrick, Decatur, GA, a sister, Judy (William) Alexander, Port Richey , FL, and a brother , Phillip (Ruth Ann) Minton, Trenton, FL. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Monday, March 28, 2011 at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday the 29th at 11:00 AM at St. John’s United Methodist Church with The Rev. Dr. George K. Howle officiating. Private inurnment will be in the Columbarium at St. John's.
