Walter Lamb

Walter W Lamb, 77, died March 20th after a short fight with cancer. He was born July 31, 1933 in Boston, Mass. and was raised in Asheville, NC. After attending McDonough Military Academy, Walter attended and graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1955. He served in the Navy for six years as a pilot in Virginia and Puerto Rico. Walter was a pioneer in the computer time sharing industry, taking one of the first time sharing companies public in the later 1960’s. Survivors include his beloved wife, Esther "Rusty" Lamb, a daughter, Sandra J. Corlett (Jason Tucker, Louisville, KY, two sons; William Douglas Lamb (Sharon L.), San Jose, CA and Kevin J. Corlett (Mera C.), Louisville, KY and four grandchildren; Matthew Lamb, Mera Corlett, Alexander Calhoun and Donald Corlett Tucker. He enjoyed working with people to create solutions, serving as a general manager in Louisville, Ky and later as an investment advisor and VP in Houston, Tx and Augusta, GA working for Merrill Lynch and later AG Edwards. After retirement in 2000, he dedicated his time to his true passion--political activism. A regular contributor to the Aiken Standard, Walter frequently enlightened readers regarding shortcomings of the latest politician or political initiative. A true patriot and golf enthusiast, Walter was the organizer of the first annual local Wounded Warrior charity golf tournament. His golfing acumen was exhibited in his four plus holes-in-one and his eight plus country club championships. A highlight of his golfing career was his participation in the USGA Senior Amateur Qualifying for the US Open in 2001. During his life, Walter served as mayor of a small city in Kentucky (Crossgate), ran for SC State House of Representatives, was a member of Woodside Plantation country club, the south Aiken Presbyterian church, and was a 32nd degree Mason. Visitation for Mr Lamb will be held at the Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home, 715 E Pine Log Rd on Thursday, March 24th, from 6 – 8 PM. A memorial service to honor Walter’s life will be held at the South Aiken Presbyterian Church on Saturday, April 16th at 3PM in the sanctuary.
