Edith Grant Walls, 98, died Thursday, May 03, 2007, in Aiken, SC, after a brief illness.
Edith was born July 23, 1908, in Bryson City, NC, one of 9 children of Doc Sidney and Lucy Snyder Grant. She lived most of her life in Hickory, NC, with her husband of 67 years, Glenn Walls. They were long-time members of the First Church of God of Hickory, where Edith taught Sunday school for many years. She spent the last nine years living in Aiken with her son, Emmett, and his wife, Jeanne.
Edith was predeceased by her husband, Glenn, and by a son, Wayne Walls, and a granddaughter, Anita Pospicil. She is survived by two sons- James Emmett Walls (Jeanne) of Aiken, SC, and Melvin Curtis Walls (Mary) of Georgetown, Kentucky; by one brother, J.J. Grant of Dayton, TN; and one sister, Pauline Van Horn of Hickory. In addition, she is survived by 8 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 9 great great grandchildren.
Edith was blessed with a long, full life, remaining active and alert until almost the very end. She was a woman of devout faith who spent her life’s energy serving the Lord and her family. She will be missed by her loving family and the many people whose lives she touched over the years.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at the First Church of God of Hickory , Hickory, NC. The family will receive visitors at Bass-Smith Funeral Home in Hickory, NC at 6:00 PM on Monday, May 7, 2007. Memorials can be made to the First Church of God of Hickory. Pallbearers will be Ed Nichols, David Walls, Jeffrey Walls, Christopher Glover, Paul Blackstock and Christopher Deal.
