AIKEN, SC -- COE PURVIS STRAIN, 92, died Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Home in Aiken.
A native of Fairmont, NC, Mr. Strain was a son of the late Samuel David and Charity Purvis Strain, Sr. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II, serving in India. He was retired from the Environmental Protection Agency. Mr. Strain was a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Aiken, and a former member of Parkview Baptist Church in Durham, NC, where he was very active as a Sunday School Teacher and former chairman of thAT department and former chairman of the Board of Deacons.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Shellie Strain, Aiken, SC and two grandsons; Jake Peacock, Jacksonville, FL and Drew Peacock, Pensacola, FL. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Juanita Barbour Strain and a grandson, John Peacock.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 PM, cryptside at Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Durham, NC. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM at the cemetery.
