AIKEN - Mrs. Edith Hahn Wade Anderson, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother died April 11, 2011. Born December 10, 1922 in Aiken to Edith and Herman Hahn, Sr. She was a lifetime resident of the City. She attended Aiken Institute, St. Angela Academy and Coker College. Edith is survived by her two sons, Robert D. (Henri) Wade, and Ronald Hahn (Susan) Wade, both of Aiken; four grandchildren, Ellen (Doug) Parry of Swannanoa, NC, Benton Wade of Asheville, NC, Andrew Wade and Katherine Wade, Aiken; nieces Pat Wadford, Nancy Price, Beverly Mitchell; nephews, Steve and Mike Hahn. Her extended family includes Gary (Troyce) Anderson, III, Carol (Mike) Looney, Robert (Ginger) Anderson. She was predeceased by her parents, brother, Herman Hahn, Jr., twin sister Christine Ropp, husbands Arthur Wade and Gary Anderson, Jr.. Edith was an active lifetime member of St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church serving on the Care Team, Altar Guild and Deliverer of Flowers to Parishioners. She was a past President of Pine Needle Garden Club, and loved her weekly Wednesday bridge group. She also was retired after many years of service at Farmers and Merchants Bank. Edith was a loving, kind and spirited individual who enjoyed life to its fullest. She was an avid equestrian and loved Hitchcock Woods. She taught many Aikenites to ride as well as swim. She enjoyed many happy times at the Outing Club and Aiken sporting events. Friends will remember Edith as a gifted gardener, a terrific cook, and a cherished friend. Visitation will be held at Shellhouse Funeral Home, Inc., 924 Hayne Ave., Aiken on Tuesday, April 12 from 5-7 PM. Funeral services will be held at 4:30 PM Wednesday April 13 at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church with the Reverend Grant Wiseman officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, and the family will then receive friends in the Stevenson-McClelland building. Pallbearers will be Benton Wade, Andrew Wade, Doug Parry, Gary Anderson, III, Bob Anderson, Ash Milner. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church, 125 Pendleton St., Aiken, SC 29801.
