AIKEN – Mr. A.W. Whittle, 84, of Aiken, died Friday, May 25, 2007 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday in the Shellhouse Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend David Laird will officiate. Interment will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Edward Whittle, David Savage, Tommy McGeary, Andy Willis, E.C. “Red” Peel and Howell Marchant
Mr. Whittle was born in Ridge Spring, SC, a son of the late Jessie Clifton and Frances Salters Whittle. He served in the US Army in the Pacific Theater during WWII, worked at the Savannah River Plant for E.I. DuPont in transportation, was a member of North Aiken Baptist Church, and owned and operated Whittle Floor Refinishing.
Survivors include his daughter, Marilyn (Paul “Cricket”) Grant, Aiken; a son, Stan A. Whittle, Aiken; three grandchildren, Jason (Jaclynn) Courtney, Danny (Sabrina) Grant, Kelli Grant; two great grandchildren, Ashton Courtney and Austin Grant; two sisters, Laveta McAlhany, Saluda, SC, Helen Sills, W. Columbia, SC.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Frances Oswald Whittle, his stepmother, Bertha Whittle, and several brothers, sisters, stepbrothers and stepsisters preceded him in death
