AIKEN, SC- FRANK EDWARD NELSON, 91, beloved husband of Gurtha Blanchette Nelson, died Monday June 13 at his residence.
A native of Charleston, SC and a resident of Aiken, SC since 1951, Frank was the son of Edward Frank Nelson, and Ruth Morris Nelson. He was a WWII veteran, and after serving in the Army, Navy and Coast Guard, he began his career in 1951 with EI Dupont as a maintenance mechanic. Mr. Nelson was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church where he was a member of the Whittler's. He was a member of the Elks Club in Punta Gorda, FL.. Frank worked as a concession stand manager for the Master's Tournament for 38 years. He was an Official and Umpire in the CSRA for over 50 years for youth sports, and also umpired for the church league. He was the first President of the New Ellenton Jr. High Booster Club and a member of The Air Stream Club. Frank was also a member of Pairs and Spares. He was preceded in death by his mother Ruth Morris Nelson and his father Edward Frank Nelson. .
Survivors, in addition to his wife Gurtha, include a daughter Pam (Morris) Deason, Aiken, his son Zane (Virginia) Nelson, four grandchildren Tabatha (Mark) Rowe, Tiffany (Chris) Bell, Jeremy Nelson, Lee Nelson, and five great grandchildren, Tyler Rowe, Baileigh Nelson, Shelby Bell, Bradford Nelson and Brent Bell.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM at Millbrook Baptist Church with Rev.’s Dr. Eddie Leopard and Dr. Chris Masters officiating. Entombment will follow at Southlawn Cemetery.
Active Pallbearers will be John Peace, Jim Morris, Bill Haselden, Henry Welch, Wallace Bland, and Gary Cox. Honorary Pallbearers will be The Millbrook Baptist Church Whittler's and Saints Alive Sunday School Class, and Virgil Stone, George Waddell, Kyle Melton, Ray Murphy.
The family would like to thank Day Break Adult Care Services nursing staff and Regency Hospice for all their care.
