Marguerite "Peggy" Ryan Bethmann

AIKEN, SC – MARGUERITE "PEGGY" RYAN BETHMANN, widow of Harry K. Bethmann died Friday, June 17, 2011. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church with the Deacon Bob Pierce, celebrant. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Friday followed by the Rosary at 7 PM at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home. A native of Malden, MA, Mrs. Bethmann was a daughter of the late John and Margaret "Mumzie" Ryan. She had lived in Aiken since 1961 until July of 2010 when she moved to Jacksonville, FL. Before moving to Aiken, Peggy called Boston her home. She was an avid Red Sox Fan throughout her life and cherished her years growing up there where she was a badminton champion. Her love of sports continued through watching and cheering on her children, challenging referee calls against her “saints” and being their biggest fan. Peggy was completely devoted to her children and grandchildren, traveling throughout the country to visit them and play hours of endless board games as well as watching countless sporting events, and recitals. She enjoyed the bingo circuit, was secretary to many Aiken Bowling leagues and loved a great game of poker. She will be missed greatly by those who shared her love of life and loyalty. There is no doubt a place in heaven for her. Surviving are her children to include a daughter, Cheryl (John) Ringer, Middletown, NJ, four sons, James (Lyn) Bethmann, Dallas, TX, Scott (Nancy) Bethmann, Jacksonville, FL, Ron (Ava) Bethmann, Jacksonville, FL and Chris (Ursula) Bethmann, Aiken. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren; John Ryan, Katie and Jeffrey Ringer, Spencer and Paige Bethmann, Thomas, Jack, Wil and Ryan Bethmann and Clint Bethmann, Samantha (Todd) Smith, Brandon and Elena Bethmann; two great-grandchildren Jake & Brady Smith. She was preceded in death by a son, Randall Kurt Bethmann.
