AIKEN - Mr. Edgar Thomas Cato, 86, died Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at his residence.
Mr. Cato was born in Aiken County, a son of the late Wayland Henry and Annie Derham Cato, Sr.. He was an avid sailor, and spent his summers in Newport RI where he competed in 12 meter class sailing events. Mr. Cato was the Master of the Flat Branch Foxhounds, a private pack. He enjoyed flying his vintage airplanes and was an active participant in the National Steeplechase Association.
He is survived by his wife, Judith Bryan Cato; two daughters, Christine Anne Cato, Aiken, Amanda Barnes Bryan, Charlotte, NC; two sons, Edgar Thomas Cato, III., Marshall, NC, Derham Vail Cato, Nashville, TN; two grandchildren, Clairissa Avyn Cato and Keenan Seigler Cato; a brother, Wayland Henry Cato, Jr, Charleston, SC
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, June 25, 2011 at the Aiken Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame in Hopeland Gardens, 135 Dupree Pl SW, Aiken, SC. Additional parking will be available at the Rye Patch
