Tanner "Dixie" Hendrick III

January 10, 1935 — June 30, 2011

AIKEN, SC- Tanner “Dixie” Hendrick III, 76, died peacefully at his home on Thursday, June 30, 2011, in Aiken, SC. A native of Nashville, TN, Mr. Hendrick was a son of the late Tanner Jr. and Nelle Bailes Hendrick. He graduated from Vanderbilt University with a BS Degree in Chemical Engineering. He worked in a variety of positions and locations for the DuPont company headquartered in Wilmington, DE for over 40 years. Dixie and his late wife Gail lived in Aiken for 30 years and was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church. Dixie loved the outdoors and had strong interests in hiking, golf, and fishing. He was a big sports fan and closely followed the SEC along with the Dallas Cowboys and Atlanta Braves. Survivors include two sons; Jeffrey Tanner (Catherine) Hendrick, Decatur GA, and Kendall Blake (Laura) Hendrick, Bald Head Island, NC and Tucson, AZ, a granddaughter Tanner Katelyn Hendrick, Decatur GA, a brother William Bailes (Sue) Hendrick, Chocowinity, NC. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Monday July 11, 2011 at Shellhouse- Rivers Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held Tuesday July 12, 2011 at 11:00 AM at St. John’s United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. George K. Howle officiating. Private inurnment will be in the columbarium at St. John’s. Memorial contributions may be directed to Trinity Hospice Memorials in care of St. Joseph’s Foundation Inc., P.O.
