Kathryn (Kate) A. Lawson Kathryn A. Lawson, 80, of Aiken, went to be home with Jesus Christ her Lord and Savior on July 18, 2011. A celebration of life service will be held at the Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home, 715 East Pine Log Road, Aiken, on Friday, July 22 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, 4524 Whiskey Road, Aiken. Mrs. Lawson was born on July 10, 1931 in Phillipsburg, N.J. to Joseph E. and Alice M. Homler. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Raymond B. Lawson, and two brothers, Robert E. Homler, Sr., and Gene C. Homler. Survivors include a daughter, JoAnn Lawson of Evans, GA, a son, Raymond (Gale) Lawson of Aiken, and three grandchildren, Raymond J., Brandon, and Savannah Lawson, of Aiken. In September 2010, she acknowledged and professed Jesus Christ as her Load and Savior, thereby securing her eternal future in Heaven. Mrs. Lawson grew up on a farm in Stewartsville, N.J. She was a homemaker with a strong work ethic. She and her husband owned and operated Lawson’s Garage in Bloomsbury, N.J. and were involved in stock car racing in the newly-formed NASCAR organization. She actively supported her children’s participation in sports serving as a softball coach for the Stewartsville Elementary School girl’s softball team and hitting fielding practice to the Greenwich Township boys Juniors and Seniors baseball teams. Kathryn held a number of part time jobs throughout her lifetime, including telephone operator, seamstress, and serving as a short order cook for several years in Aiken at the restaurant formerly known as “The Biscuit Barn” and “The Other Place”. She enjoyed sitting on her porch talking to neighbors, her daily meetings with her friends for coffee at McDonald’s, sharing Sunday dinners at the home of Willie and Ella Culler, and spending time with her three grandchildren. The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the entire staff at Trinity on Laurens for the exceptional care they provided during her stay, and to the staffs of Trinity Home Health and Trinity Hospice who were there to help care for her. A gathering will be held at the residence of Raymond R. Lawson, 235 Old Tory Trail, Aiken, following the interment. In-lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in her memory to Trinity on Laurens, 213 Laurens Street, Aiken, SC 29801.
