Constance Rich Treadwell

June 18, 1925 — July 26, 2011

AIKEN-- CONSTANCE (Connie) RICH TREADWELL passed away on July 26, 2011 after a long struggle with illnesses which left her cruelly debilitated. Throughout her travail she retained a positive attitude toward life, a loving countenance, a desire to participate in activities, to be helpful and bring happiness to others. This was Connie throughout her life: giving and asking for nothing in return. Connie is survived by John, her husband for 65 glorious years; two daughters, Bonnie and Debra; three grand-children, Finn, Suzi, and Jamie; two great grand- daughters, Alice and Willow. Connie's passion was her family. She instilled in it strong traditional values. She actively supported her husband's careers in the Army and business. When times were tough, she worked. When times were good, she volunteered her services wherever she saw a need: helping Army families, teaching soldiers who needed additional education, acting as a staff aide in local hospitals, leading Brownie and Girl Scout groups, assisting in fund-raisers for local United Way and Twig organizations, and producing "smash" theatrical programs when she was President of the Rye, New York Women's Club.. Yet she still had time for her many social activities; most notably, bridge, dancing, golf, canoeing, and riding. Connie will have her memorial service and inurnment at the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York, where Connie and John met, married, and served on the faculty for several years. This is where they were taught the values by which they lived, and where Connie learned to be an outstanding "Army Wife". She will be missed. But her family knows that her spirit remains as a beacon to follow throughout their lives. Of her life, it will be said: "Well done, Be thou at Peace". A celebration of Connie's life will be held at such time as the family gathers.
