Joan Murphy Larlee

AIKEN, SC -- Joan Murphy Larlee entered into her eternal rest on August 21, 2011. She was born to Fred and Thelma Murphy of Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada on August 14, 1930. Joan moved to Aiken S.C. after marrying Gordon(Don) Amos Larlee of Edmunston, NB, Canada. Joan made Aiken her long time residence where she raised her three children. In her early career she worked as a telephone operator and a race secretary in New York. Joan volunteered as pink lady for the Aiken Hospital and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. After her children were grown she worked until her retirement at Owens Corning in the employee medical department. Joan’s love of family and friends was captured through her favorite hobby of photography. Family members, in addition to her three children, Patti, Worcester, NY, Beth (Rich), Alexandria, VA, and Grant (Kathryn),Aiken, SC, include her long- time friend James Larente and his three children, Jimmy, Robert, and Suzanne. Joan was a sister to twelve brothers and sisters; Raymond(Rita) Murphy- both deceased, Hubert Murphy, Moncton NB, Ann Caddell, Saint John, NB, Gregory(Laura) Murphy, Moncton NB, Patrick(Claire) Murphy, Moncton NB, Neil(Sherrill) Murphy, New Minas, NS, Bernadette(Garry) Van Buskirk , Moncton, NB, Daniel(Claudette) Murphy, Moncton, NB, John(Rose) Murphy, Moncton NB, Kevin(Sandy) Murphy, Riverview NB, David(Theresa) Murphy, Omaha, Nebraska, and Maureen Murphy Moncton, NB and many nieces and nephews. Grandchildren are Colleen (Howard)Roache, McConnellsville, NY ,Clint Thomas March ,Oneida, NY, Grant Whitney Larlee II, and Grey Townsend Larlee of Aiken. Her great grand children include Samantha, Kaitlyn, and Nathan Roache. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at 1:00 PM at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church.
