AIKEN, SC -- JAMES ROBERT CULBREATH, 94, beloved husband of Helen Hodges Culbreath, died Sunday, September 18, 2011 at his residence.
A native of Sumner County, Tennessee, Mr. Culbreath was a son of the late Phocion and Bonnie Catherine Adamson Culbreath. He was veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the famous 4th Infantry Division, landing on Utah Beach in Normandy on D Day. He was awarded 5 Battle Stars, a Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal and a Bronze Star. He had lived in Aiken since 1952 and retired from DuPont at the Savannah River Plant after 33 years. He was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church.
Survivors, include his wife of 68 years, Helen; two daughters, Judy Culbreath, Aiken, Glenda (Dr. Frampton, Jr.) Henderson, Columbia; two sons, Robert L. (Cathy) Culbreath, Appling, GA and J. Randy Culbreath, Aiken; four grandchildren, Johnny Culbreath, Frampton W. Henderson III, James Alan Henderson, Daniel Sullivan Henderson,; a great-granddaughter, Caroline Culbreath; and two sisters, Catherine Schreck, Rochester, MN and Gayle Harris, Goodlettsville, TN. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Robbie Culbreath; four sisters, Aline Escue, Anna Rhoy Cole Elizabeth Byrd, and Marjorie Langford; and a brother, Sherman Culbreath.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens with Military Honors.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
