James Woodrow Walters

James Woodrow “Jim” Walters, 66, of Aiken, loving husband and father of two sons, brother, uncle, and friend to many, died July 3 of cancer at University Hospital in Augusta, G.A. Funeral services will be held in Aiken, S.C. at 2:30 p.m. this Sunday, July 8, at Cedar Creek Church www.cedarcreekchurch.net and a reception will follow at Woodside Plantation Country Club. Jim was born in Columbus, O.H., where he was a graduate of Grove City High School. He served in the United States Navy, earned a Bachelor of Science degree from University of Maryland, and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Dayton. A long time resident of Washington, D.C., Jim worked as an analyst for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). He and his wife Linda retired in 1994 and made their home the last 11 years in Aiken, S.C. Jim was a member of Woodside Country Club and served as a member of the Board of Governors and Chairman of the Golf Committee for two years. Jim was an avid golfer, enjoyed singing, dancing and working in his garden. He was also a huge fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes. Jim’s friends and members of the Aiken community are encouraged by the tremendous courage and character he demonstrated throughout his two year battle with cancer. He was baptized at Cedar Creek Church in April of 2007 and he said that his renewed faith was the source of his strength and great comfort to him. Jim and Linda loved attending Cedar Creek Church together and Jim especially enjoyed singing along with the Praise Band. Jim was a son of the late George Woodrow and Minnie V. Walters of Columbus, O.H. Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Linda Roth Walters; two sons from his previous marriage to Judith L. Walters, Brian Douglas and Annie Laurie Walters of McLean, V.A.; and Brett Owen and Melissa Fritz Walters of Charleston, S.C.; a brother and sister-in-law, George Allen and Ann Walters of Castro Valley, C.A.; a sister, Laura Marie and Roy Davis of Grove City, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
