AIKEN - Barry A. MacDonald died at his home in Aiken, South Carolina on September 30, 2011 following a brief illness.
Before moving to Aiken in 2005, Barry and his beloved wife, Michele had lived on Fripp Island, SC since moving there in 1994. Michele was a native of France and passed away in 2000, with Alzheimer’s.
Barry was born November 1, 1934, in Detroit, MI to the late Charles MacDonald and Violet McKinnon. Barry had many interests, including the love of music, reading, watching old movies, entertaining at home, and traveling to many parts of the world. He was known as the family historian and enjoyed genealogy. Barry served honorably in the U.S. Army. He was a past member of the Aiken Supper Club, which is a group of old time Aikenites. Barry authored a Juvenile Market Book titled “Zero The Lock Dog” which was illustrated by Lizzie Mahoney. Barry was a Presbyterian. He was also a member of Clan Donald-USA and of the Clan McKinnon and enjoyed attending the Robert Burns birthday dinner yearly. Barry was also a Piper in Michigan.
The interment of ashes will be private near Fripp Island, SC and in Canada with his family and friends at the family cemetery plots.
Barry is survived by his brother Edson MacDonald of Michigan and has relatives and friends and their families residing in Michigan, Ontario, Canada, France, and several close friends in Aiken, SC. Barry will be missed by all who knew him.
