AIKEN, SC -- DOROTHY MAE MARTIN, 83, widow of James B. Martin, entered into rest Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at her residence surrounded by her family.
Born in Sweetwater, TN, Mrs. Martin was a daughter of the late Mayo and Reva Hicks Wilson. She had lived in Aiken County since 1950 and was a member of Talatha Baptist Church since 1951, and was also a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. Her church and family were the center of her life, and she will be missed by all who knew her. She was a homemaker who lovingly helped raise her grandchildren, who were the highlight of her life.
Survivors include three daughters; Reta (Benny) Matlock, Teresa (Terry) Hair and Pam McKenzie all of Aiken, eight grandchildren; Michael (Stephanie) Matlock, Kim (Ken) Middlebrooks, Katie (Josh) Yonce, Kristie Hair, Kellie Hair, Cherity (Jerry) Robinson, Robbie Robinson and Amber McKenzie, eight great-grandchildren; Ashley Matlock, Jessica Matlock, Kenny Middlebrooks, Keaton Middlebrooks, Krystyan Hair, Cara (Ashley) Price, Caitlyn Trotter and Dalton Robinson, two sisters; Margaret Lowe, Aiken and JoAnn (Harold) McNeeley, Etowah, TN, and a brother, Harold (Fran) Wilson, Aiken. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers; Woodrow Wilson, AL and James D. Wilson, OH.
The family would like to express thanks to her special caregiver Lorrie Hallman. They would also like to thank the special caregivers of Trinity Hospice for their loving compassion and care.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 PM at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Talatha Baptist Church Sunday at 3:00 PM with The Rev.'s David Lester and Kevin Carter officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Matlock, Robbie Robinson, Jerry Robinson, Harold Wilson, Randy Wilson, Bobby Wilson, Derrel Huffman and Steve Massingill. Honorary Pallbearers will be Josh Yonce, Ken Middlebrooks, Barry Lowe, Ashley Price, Matt Wyckoff and Aaron Brooks.
