AIKEN - Margaret S.( Meg) Jones died November 2 at home in Aiken.
A daughter of the late Morris W. and Margaret Tompkins Simonson, Mrs. Jones was born October 27 1944, in Morristown, N. J.
A graduate of the University of South Carolina, Mrs. Jones lived in Aiken since 1966.
A 50 year member of the Girl Scouts of America, Meg served as a scout, camp counselor, staff executive, troop leader and Board member. She attained the girl rank of Curved Bar and was awarded the Thanks Badge by the local Council. She was a registered Maine Junior Outdoor Guide. Also long active in public school affairs, Meg participated as a room mother, Chairman of the Area I Advisory Council and served on the Aiken County Board of Education. Meg was a Charter member and President of Aiken Woman’s Club and Sand River Woman’s Club, and served as president of the American Association of University Women and the Aiken Jayceettes. She also served a Juvenile Arbitrator and Cub Scout Den Mother.
Mrs. Jones is survived by her husband of 45 years, John L Jones; two sons, Keith T Jones, Augusta, Ga. and Morris E Jones of Atlanta, Ga; a brother, William G Herbert, Ventura, Ca; and a sister, Sarah J Trammell, Cedar Bluff, Ala.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Friendship Maine.
A Memorial Scholarship Drop-In celebrating Meg’s outstanding life of community service will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Royal Robbins, 325 Bissell Rd., Aiken on Tuesday, November 29 from 3:30 to 5:30 PM. Anyone who cares to participate is invited.
