AIKEN, SC – JOSEPH L. TAYLOR, 77, beloved husband of Margaret Holley-Taylor, died Friday, July 27, 2007 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
Mr. Taylor was born on September 29, 1929 in Aiken County to Joseph Willie and Bertie Shellhouse Taylor. He was a graduate of Aiken High School, served in the navy during the Korean Conflict and was retired from DuPont and Westinghouse at the Savannah River Site.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Keith Taylor of Aiken, a step-daughter, Patti Tarity Street of Aiken, a step-son, Ralph Holley of Sebastian, FL, two step-grandchildren, Robert Holley of Aiken and Taylor Lane Holley of Atlanta,a step-great-grandson, Robert Oliver Holley II, three sisters, Dorothy T. Brown, Mary T. McLean and Laura T. Hicks all of Aiken and a brother, John W. Taylor of North Augusta. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elaine Herde Taylor, a son, Joey Taylor, and five sisters, Velma Couch, Ruth Walton, Mildred Banes, Marjorie Thomas and Kathleen Cynova.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home, 715 East Pine Log Rd., Aiken with The Rev. Cathy Cole officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Matt Fry, Carl Brown, Larry Ware, Doug McLean, Richard Taylor and Robert Holley. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
