AIKEN, SC -- BRENDA MASSEY HAGLER, 67, went to be with her Heavenly Father Wednesday, December 7, 2011. Born in Charlotte, NC, Brenda was a daughter of Edith Shaw Massey Kerley and the late Woodrow Parks Massey. She was a retired English teacher, having taught at Chester, SC High School for 19 years, Ridge Spring Monetta High School for 5 years and also at J. N. Fries Magnet School in Concord, NC. She also spent a year and a half in Honduras as a missionary. She moved to Aiken 1 1/2 years ago from Concord, NC Mrs. Hagler loved spending time with her family and serving the Lord in any why she could. She loved writing poems and songs and singing for the Lord. Survivors, in addition to her mother of Charlotte, NC, include two daughters, Shelley (Todd) Shugart, Carlisle, SC, and Allison (Michael) Minton, Aiken, SC; four grandchildren, Meagan (Wesley) Kinard, Will Shugart, Alyssa Brown and Melissa Shugart; a sister, Barbara Green, Denver, NC; a brother, Mike (Shelly) Massey, Charlotte, NC; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved very much. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Rocky Springs Baptist Church in Aiken, SC and Sunday, December 11, 2011 at 2:30 PM at Broadus Baptist Church in Concord, NC. The family will receive friends in Concord at the church beginning one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be directed to Broadus Baptist Church for foreign missions, 59 Green St. Concord, NC 28027.
