AIKEN, SC -- Du BOIS SMOCK THOMPSON, JR, 71, beloved husband of Judith Hekman Thompson, died Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at his residence in Aiken, SC after a 10 year struggle with Alzheimer's.
A native of Metuchen, NJ, Mr. Thompson was a son of the late Du Bois Smock Thompson, Sr. and Martha Finney Thompson. He was a graduate of the Wardlaw Hartridge School, American University and the Thunderbird School of International Global Management. He was a retired banking executive and had lived in Tunbridge, VT for 15 years and Waterford, VT for 25 years before moving to Aiken, SC two years ago. Mr. Thompson was a member of Rotary International, former trustee and treasurer of the Thetford Academy, long-time trustee of The Haven and former chairman of the Lyndon State College Foundation. He was a member and officer of the Lower Waterford Congregational Church for 25 years. He was an avid gardener and motorcyclist.
Survivors, in addition to Judy, his wife of 47 years, include a daughter, Christina Hekman Thompson (Duane Stevens), Aiken, SC, a son, Du Bois Smock Thompson III (Amy), Danville, VT and five grandchildren, Sabrina, Holden, Grafton, Mark and Courtney.
A memorial service will be held in Vermont at a later date.
