AIKEN, SC -- ALVIE FRANKLIN SNELLING, Jr., 85, died Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at Veteran's Victory House in Walterboro, SC. A native and life-long resident of Aiken County, Mr. Snelling was a son of the late Alvie Franklin Snelling, Sr., and Ruby Cortez Snelling. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, was retired from Graniteville Co., he was a former member of Millbrook Baptist Church for 45 years, and was a member of Aiken's First Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mary "Peggy" Howell Snelling, a daughter, Mary F. Snelling (Ron Albertelli), a son, Dean A. Snelling, Sr., (Rebecca), a granddaughter, Sara S. Wilson (Jeffrey), a grandson, Dean Andrew Snelling, Jr. (Caylee) and a great-granddaughter, Libby Wilson. Mr. Snelling is also survived by two sisters, Minnie S. Willing and Adelene S. Hite. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Herbert L. Snelling and William Kenneth Snelling. Interment will be private in Graniteville Cemetery with Military Honors. A Memorial Service will be held Friday at 11:00 AM at Aiken's First Baptist Church with The Reverend Fred W. Andrea III, PhD officiating.
