AIKEN, SC -- MARY McCARTY O'CONNOR of Aiken, widow of John Joseph O'Connor, entered into rest Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at her residence.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at Noon at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church.
Mary was born November 28, 1921 in Logansport, IN, a daughter of Jeremiah and Rebecca McCarty. She had one brother, Jeremiah McCarty.
Mary McCarty met and wed her beau, John O'Connor in Richland, Washington while working at the Hanford Site as a mechanic's helper in the tool room. The mechanic's helper and PhD Physicist made a great couple for 60 years of marriage. Mary O'Connor was a homemaker who never retired. Her home was the center of constant activity as she cared for her children, grandchildren, relatives and friends. John O'Connor preceded her in death in 2006 and now heaven has a great couple reunited.
Survivors are two daughters, Margaret O'Connor and friend Bruce Blocher and Ann Halliday and her husband, Dr. Alan Halliday; two sons, John Patrick O'Connor and James L. O'Connor and his wife LaDonne; four grandsons, Steven Halliday, Connor Halliday, Cory O'Connor and Kevin O'Connor and his fiancé Margaret Roach; her niece, Patricia Freed and nephew, Jerry McCarty.
