Howard Wendell Brooks

AIKEN - Mr. Howard Wendell Brooks, 99, died Saturday, December 17, 2011. Mr. Brooks was born in Columbus, Ohio, on August 5, 1912, to Frank M. and Maud Clement Brooks. He attended Ohio State and Denison Universities and worked for Schorr-Ketner in Columbus before starting his own business in fine furniture and interior decorating, Howard Brooks, Inc. He was involved in the furniture business for over 70 years. In 1940 he married Mary E. Fahrney and together they brought up four daughters in Columbus, Carol (Mrs. Howard McCrady) now of Scottsdale, AZ, Diane (Mrs. Stanley Pleninger) of Anchorage, AK, Rosalind, Tucson, AZ, and Leslie, Long Beach, CA. He and Mary maintained homes in Ohio and Arizona. After Mary’s death in 1991, he married Dorothea K. Wiles. He and Dorothea lived in Columbus, Naples, FL, and Aiken, SC, where Dorothea now resides. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
