Charlotte Bowen Wakefield

AIKEN, SC – Charlotte Bowen Wakefield, 95, widow of John B. Wakefield, Jr., died Wednesday January 04, 2012 at her residence. Born in Abbeville County, SC, Mrs. Wakefield was the daughter of the late Robert Burts and Nora Gertrude Murdock Bowen. She had lived in Aiken since the late 1950’s, and was retired from the Aiken County Health Department. She was a collector of family bibles. Mrs. Wakefield was a lifelong member of First Creek Baptist Church in Antriville, SC. Survivors include a daughter-in-law Kay Coward Wakefield, Aiken, SC; three grandchildren, Donnie Wakefield (Lou), Aiken, SC, Wendy Smith (Clint), Aiken, SC, Jennifer Thompson (Ty), Taylors, SC; seven great- grandchildren Alex Smith, MaKenzie Smith, Bowen Smith, Meg Wakefield, Chaffee Thompson, John Tyler Thompson and Campbell Thompson; several nephews; her three favorite nieces; and a caregiver Beth Taylor. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Don Wakefield, Sr. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 05, 2012 at 2:00PM at the graveside in First Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Antriville, SC. The Reverend's Clint Smith and Donnie Murdock will officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
