AIKEN, SC -- CHRISTOPHER L. KANEY, 56, beloved husband of Katherine Guinn Kaney, died suddenly, Thursday, January 5, 2011. A native and lifelong resident of Aiken, Chris was a son of the late Michael D. and Blanche Thompson Kaney. He was an electrical design engineer with Applied Control Technology. Chris was a loving husband, father and brother. He enjoyed playing golf, and was a very patient, humble and kind man. Survivors, in addition to Katherine, his wife of 30 years, include two daughters, Ashley Kaney and Michele Ortiz; a son, J. Travis (Rachel) Ryan; and a granddaughter, Riley Katherine Burdick, all of Aiken; four sisters, Angel (Jerry) Lynn, Graniteville, Lydia Kaney, North Augusta, Bernadette (Walt) Reiss, Placentia, CA, and Marilyn Mazza, Hermosa Beach, CA; and four brothers, Mark Kaney, Aiken, Matthew (Vivian) Kaney, Johnson City, TN, Patrick (Sandy) Kaney, Alpharetta, GA and Gerald (Maggie) Kaney, Alexander City, AL and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Chris was preceded in death by two children, Christopher, Jr. and Katherine and two brothers, Michael and Timothy. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Sunday at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home, followed by interment in Calvary Cemetery.
