AIKEN - Mr. James McLean Norman, 90, died Monday, January 23, 2012.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 28 in Greenwood Cemetery, Waynesboro, TN, with Pastor Don Haney officiating. Mr. Norman was born in Waynesboro, TN, a son of the late Charles Lafayette and Camilla Turman Norman. He served in the US Army Signal Corp during WWII and was involved in the D-Day invasion and as a courier at the Potsdam Conference. He was a participant in the Smithsonian History of WWII video project.
Mr. Norman was a former resident of Corydon, IN where he was an educator, guidance counselor and Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International. In his early career he taught agriculture and was an FFA advisor. He was a locally known jewelry maker and member of several educational organizations. He was a member and elder of the Corydon Presbyterian Church for over 53 years. He was also an avid University of Tennessee fan.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mogwedell Goode Norman; two daughters, Teresa Norman Hallman, Louisville, KY, Mary Sue (Douglas) Wyatt, Aiken, SC; four grandchildren, Jason Hallman, Zachary (Amy) Wyatt, Adam Wyatt and Rebecca Wyatt.
The family has requested that memorials be made to Rotary International, One Rotary Center, 1560 Sherman Ave., Evanston, IL 60201, in Mr. Norman's name.
