Donald Lee Smathers

AIKEN, SC -- DONALD LEE SMATHERS, 69, died Friday, January 20, 2012 at University Hospital in Augusta, GA.. A native of Spartanburg County, SC, Don was a son of the late Frank Edward and Ethel George Smathers. He was a veteran of the United States Army and had lived in Aiken for the last 35 years. He was the owner of Millbrook Fireworks. Don loved gardening and animals and was a compassionate and giving man. Survivors include his wife, Tammy Gunter Smathers; two daughters, Nicole Toole, Aiken and Ashley Albea, Monetta, SC; five grandchildren, Austin, Alex and Audrey Bridges, J. T. Huffman and Addyson Bradley; three sisters, Betty J. McWilliams, Conyers, GA, Carol Bodie, Aiken and Linda G. Ryan, Newport Beach, CA; a brother, Jimmy L. Smathers, Aiken and a number of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 4:00 PM at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home on East Pine Log Rd. The Rev. Dr. Reilly Hammond will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorial contributions may be directed to the FOTAS Aiken, P.O.
