AIKEN, SC -- Mr. Hazel “Mac” Haywood McGuire, 78, died August 19, 2007 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
He was born in Columbia, SC on April 9, 1929 to Mannie Lee and Ellie Haywood McGuire. He graduated from Columbia High School in 1946 and The University of South Carolina in 1951 with a BS in Electrical Engineering. Mac then went to work at the Savannah River Plant and retired from DuPont in 1987. He was a member of Aiken’s First Baptist Church. The hallmark of his life was his devotion to his church, family and career.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Mary Summersett McGuire, three daughters, Rebecca Koelker, Aiken, Mary Nelle (Kevin) Floyd, Charleston, and Dianne (David) Lance, Lexington, a son David (Mary) McGuire, Aiken, and nine grandchildren, Kate and Evan Koelker, Matthew and Jeffrey Floyd, David and Joseph McGuire, Elliot, Amy and Will Lance.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Aiken’s First Baptist Church with The Rev. Dr. Fred W Andrea III officiating. Private burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home, 715 East Pine Log Rd., and also following the service in the church parlor.
