Dr. James Raynor Barham, Jr. Dr. James Raynor Barham, Jr., 75, beloved husband of Anne Shortt Barham; loving “Daddy” of Anne B. Jones (Stephen) of Aiken, Elizabeth (Beth) B. Cerrow (Mark) of Washington, D.C., Ellen B. Walker (Jeffrey) of Greenville, SC and “Papa” to Andrew R. Jones (Hillary), Caroline R. Jones and Charlotte A. Walker entered into eternal rest on Friday, August 24, 2007 after a lengthy illness. He is also survived by his sister Betty B. Morgan (Kelly) of Florence, SC, brother-in-law Maurice (Tim) Lang (Judy) of Fenwick, WV and several cousins, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at St. John’s United Methodist Church. Private internment will occur at Bethany Cemetery prior to the memorial service. Born in Marion, SC, Dr. Barham was the son of the late Eva Tartt Barham and James Raynor Barham, Sr. Dr. Barham graduated from William and Mary College in 1954 and then entered medical school. In 1958 he graduated from the Medical College of SC and served a year-long pediatric internship at Duke University Medical Hospital, returning to the Medical College of SC as a pediatric resident physician from 1959-1961. For 6 years Dr. Barham practiced pediatrics in Anderson, SC and was President of the Anderson Chapter of the American Red Cross. In 1967 Dr. Barham established his pediatric practice in Aiken and was professionally active as a member of the Helping Hands Executive Board, Aiken County Mental Health Board, and was the pediatric physician of Aiken County’s Crippled Children’s Clinic. He was continually involved in the life of Aiken’s youth, serving as the team sports physician for USCA and Aiken high schools. In 2002, he was recognized as a “Pacer Pioneer” by the USCA Athletic Department where a permanently endowed scholarship was established in his name. Dr. Barham compassionately treated the children and teenagers of Aiken for 29 years until he retired in 1996. But his greatest legacy will always be as a devoted husband, loving father and adoring grandfather. Memorials may be directed to Dr. James R.
