James "Jim" William Morris

August 13, 1931 — March 2, 2012

AIKEN - Mr. James "Jim" William Morris, 80, died Friday, March 2, 2012. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday at Millbrook Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Eddie Leopard and the Reverend Dr. Chris Masters officiating. A private interment will be held prior to the service. The family will receive friends following the service. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Marine Corps League, The Heyward Sunday School Class, and The Whittlers. Mr. Morris was born in Toledo, OH, a son of the late Lee William and Florence Smith Morris. He attended elementary and high school in Kenton, OH, and graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the United States Marine Corps during that time. His business and professional background include three and a half years with a national accounting firm in Cleveland, OH before entering the insurance profession where he was awarded the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation. He was a member of an employee benefit consulting partnership for 18 years in Columbus, OH, After taking retirement from the consulting firm, he was recruited by Bowling Green State University to serve as Human Resource Director, and served there for nine years before moving to Aiken, SC. After moving to Aiken in 1997, he and his wife became members of Millbrook Baptist Church in 1999. His church activities included serving as an usher, member and chairman of the Senior Adult Council, President of the Rainbow Club, Whittlers Men's Ministry, member and chairman of the Personnel Committee, member of the finance committee and church council. Mr. Morris' social and civic activities included serving as President of the Northwest Kiwanis Club in Columbus, OH. He was a lifetime member of the Marine Corps League in Aiken, SC where he served as Commandant of the James L. Hammons Detachment. He also volunteered for several years at the V.A. Medical Center in Augusta, GA and for Aiken Area Churches Together Serving (ACTS). Survivors include his beloved wife, Betty Jean Hankison Morris; sister, Ann (James) Nixon, Aiken, a sister in law Columbus (OH),another sister in law Phoenix (AZ), and one brother in law Phoenix (AZ) along with numerous nieces and nephews.
