Vivian Williamson Rash Lofgren

Mrs. Vivian Williamson Lofgren of Aiken, S. C. died at Carrington Place in Matthews, N.C. on March 4, 2012. She was born in Aiken, September l5, l912 to the late James Luke and Katie Sanders Williamson. A life-long member of the First Baptist Church, she was a member of the Barbara Smith Sunday School class and the Pauline White Circle. She attended Winthrop College and later worked for the Williamson Lumber Company. During World War 11, she was employed at Fort Gordon and Oliver General Hospital in Augusta, Georgia. In 1952, Mrs. Lofgren joined the E. I. DuPont Company as an executive secretary at the Savannah River Plant in Aiken, South Carolina. She retired after 25 years of faithful service. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Europe. In 1969, Mrs. Lofgren was named Career Woman of the Year by the Aiken Business and Professional Women’s Club. She served as president of the South Carolina Educational Foundation, was president of the Winthrop Alumni Association, and was an active member of the Aiken Pilot Club. Mrs. Lofgren is survived by her daughter, Peggy Parker Harding and her husband, Robert Harding of Charlotte, N. C., two grandchildren, Sharon Harding of Charlotte and Wayne Harding and his wife Vickie of West Harrison, Indiana, six great-grandchildren, Stephanie and husband, Matt of Louisville, KY, Erick and wife, Elizabeth of London, England, Kristen, Rachel, Leah and Hannah and two great-great- grandchildren, Sean and Lucas. She is also survived by her two sisters, Marian W. Bell and husband, Jimmie of Aiken, S.C. and Mildred W. Palmer of Albemarle, N. C. and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Paul F. Parker, Arthur T. Rash and Eugene E. Lofgren and her brother, Luke McKiever Williamson. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 9, 2012 at Shellhouse Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. Fred Andrea III officiating. A private interment will be held in Bethany Cemetery prior to the memorial service. Mrs. Lofgren’s family will receive friends following the service.
