AIKEN, SC -- JERRY WILLIE JACKSON, SR., 75, beloved husband of Olla Ligons Jackson, died Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at Doctors Hospital in Augusta.
Born on September 10, 1936, Jerry was the first born of nine siblings of Louie and Clementine Mobley Jackson. He attended and graduated from Edgefield County Training School. He was united in marriage to Olla Ligons on March 3, 1956. He lived in Cincinnati, OH and worked at RCA Victor for 12 years before moving back to South Carolina. He then worked for Graniteville Company for a number of years and later retired from Kimberly - Clark Corp. Mr. Jackson served faithfully at his church, Guiding Light Ministries as Overseer. He loved people, baseball, fishing and playing Bejeweled. Jerry met no strangers and loved everyone.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Pastor Olla Ligons Jackson; four children, Jerry Jackson, Jr., Ingrid Jackson, Tracy (Leon) Scott and Leshawn Jackson, all of Aiken; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Jackson, Jermaine Jackson, Brandon Jenkins, Brock Jackson, Christopher Scott, Caylee Scott and Shane Jackson; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Sebelle (Francis) Hubbard, Aiken, Goldie Dean, Johnston, SC and Darlene (T. J.) Connelly, Aiken; three brothers, Louis (Laura) Jackson, Saluda, SC, Leonard Jackson, Saluda, SC and Frederick (Gail) Jackson, Newport News, VA; and a sister-in-law, Mary Jackson, Aiken. Preceding Jerry in death, in addition to his parents, were his brother Marion Jackson and sister Gladys Harris.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Saturday at Shellhouse Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday at Guiding Light Ministries, 3407 Trolley Line Rd., with Rev. Martin Ryan officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Randy Ligons, Travis Jenkins, Carl Ligons, Darius Hubbard, Bernard Mobley and Melvin Elam. Mr. Jackson will be placed in the church at Noon Sunday.
