AIKEN, SC -- JACK ASHE, 84, widower of MIldred M. "Mickey" Ashe, died Tuesday, March 12, 2012 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
A native of Hayesville, NC, Mr. Ashe was a son of the late Claude and Maude Cabe Ashe. He was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II, serving with the 397th Military Police Battalion in Germany. He was a railway security guard protecting military ammunition, arms, poison gas supplies and equipment while in transit. Mr. Ashe moved to Aiken 55 years ago and worked in security for DuPont at the Savannah River Site. He was a member of South Aiken Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his daughter, Nancy Harris, The Villages, FL, grandsons, Roger Waagner, Curtis Waagner and Lance Waagner, 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and a sister, Lettie Ashe Alexander, Hayesville, NC.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Thursday at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:00 AM at the funeral home with The Rev. Dr. Christopher Crotwell officiating. Interment will follow with military honors in Southlawn Cemetery.
