CAYCE, SC -- Richard Ray Epps, 75, formerly of Aiken, died Sunday, April 8, 2012 at his residence in Cayce, SC.
Mr. Epps was born at home in Simpsonville, SC to James Roy and Lucy Mae Bramblett Epps. He was a graduate of Lower Richland High School and was a former member of the SC Air National Guard. He was the former owner of Servpro of Aiken and had lived in Aiken for 40 years before moving to Cayce in 2010. Mr. Epps was a former longtime member of Millbrook Baptist Church where he taught the Bruce Hinson, later named Epps Sunday School Class for 28 years. He was also a Deacon and longtime usher. He was a current member of State Street Baptist Church in Cayce where he also taught Sunday School until his health declined. He was a former member of the Optomist Club.
Survivors include his wife, Marie H. Epps, a daughter, Susan (Jimmy) Harden, Aiken, two sons, Mike (Milly Ann) Epps, Aiken, Mark (Monika) Epps, Aiken, two step-daughters, Barbara L. Query, Folly Beach, SC, and Janna Marie (Buddy) Neeley, Lugoff, SC, three step-sons, Charles Ray (Angie) Harmon, Pelion, SC and Marion Chris (Barbie) Harmon, Aiken and Dorian Marc Harmon, Asheville, NC, 17 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Dot (Wallace) Werts, Elloree, SC and Virginia Blair, Columbia, and two brothers, Don (Ann) Epps, Orangeburg, SC and Wade (Barbara Jean) Epps, Columbia. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Donna Richardson Epps, a sister, Louise Young and a brother, Bobby Epps.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM at Millbrook Baptist Church with The Rev.'s Mike Chandler and Nathan Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Matt Epps, Drew Epps, Devan Harden, Landon Yarosh, Graylyn Yarosh and Bryan Epps. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Ray Epps Men's Sunday School Class at Millbrook Baptist Church and his Sunday School Class at State Street Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM, Wednesday at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home. Friends may call at other times at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Milly Ann Epps.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to State Street Baptist Church's Bus Fund, 1420 State Street, Cayce, SC 29033.
