October 9, 1941 — April 15, 2012

AIKEN, SC- MERTON CHARLES RUNKEL, 70, beloved husband of Barbara Ann Snyder Runkel, died Sunday, April 15, 2012 at the Medical College of Georgia. Mr. Runkel was born in Ladysmith, WI to the Late Carl Merton Runkel & Irene Malamphy Sletten. He was an Army Veteran and was a former resident of the Twin Cities, Minneapolis & St. Paul. He was a retired Insurance Salesman and moved to Aiken six years ago. He was a member of the Richfield United Methodist Church in Richfield, MN and a Chartered Life Underwriter. He loved fishing, football, dogs and most of all his family. Survivors include his wife Barbara Ann Snyder Runkel, his daughter Laura (William) Hanson, St. Paul, MN, son, Mark Boone, Edina, MN, two grandchildren, Nicholas Boone and Benjamin Boone, three nephews, Adam Runkel, Brett Runkel, Patrick McGaughey, a niece, Robin McGaughey Arnold, two brothers, Steve (Cheryl Berg) Runkel, Shoreview, MN, John (Penee) McGaughey, Albert Lea, MN, an uncle, Robert G. (Elaine) Runkel, Corte Bella, AZ. He was preceded in death by a sister Kathleen Perrino. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Richfield United Methodist Church at a later date.
