AIKEN, SC -- BERNARD WAYNE WARDEN, 81, died Sunday, April 29, 2012 in Aiken.
A native of Beckley, WV, Mr. Warden was a son of the late Maggie Ruth Gambill. He was a retired Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force. After 23 years in the Air Force, Wayne retired and moved to Aiken, SC in 1970. He went to work with the United States Postal Service and retired from the Laurens Street branch after 20 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Teresa Warden (Tony) Sheppard, Aiken, Cheryl Warden (Rick) Quarles, Aiken, a son, Brian (Caroline) Warden, Budapest, Hungary, five grandchildren, Danielle Sheppard, Sabrina Quarles, Erin, Nathan and Megan Warden, two sisters, Betty Fleming, Aiken, Lucille Wright, Aiken, half-brother, Homer Warden, Jr., West Virginia and a step-brother, Bobby Wilkins, Graniteville.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home with Pastor Stan Adams officiating. Interment will follow at Southlawn Cemetery with full honors accorded by the United States Air Force Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday at the funeral home.
