AIKEN, SC -- AILEEN HUMPHRIES STAPLETON, 84, widow of James H. Stapleton, Sr., died Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at her residence. A native of Union County, SC, Mrs. Stapleton was a daughter of the late Allen Humphries and Alma Smith Humphries Mitchell. She lived in Aiken since 1952 and was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist Faith. Aileen was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and also the Ladies Auxiliary in Augusta, GA. Survivors include a daughter, Candy Stapelton (Bobby) Hayes, Aiken, three sons, Joe (Linda) Littlejohn, Union, James H. (Emma) Stapleton, Jr., Leesville, SC, Stephen Wayne Stapleton, Aiken, 17 grandchildren, Joe Ed Littlejohn, Jr., Tommy Littlejohn, Allison (Tommy) Rauton, Maranda (Tommy) Cromer, Kyle Hayes, Erin Hayes, Joel (Julie) Stapleton, Jason (Tiffany) Stapleton, Michael (Judy) Taylor, Tonya Hilton, Shannon (Brian) Rabun, Gina Johnson, James Stapleton, Brad (Sarah) Stapleton, Brandon Stapleton, Cheryl Hilton and Robin (Chip) Russell, 36 great-grandchildren, Karmen Littlejohn, Bryson Clark, Carson Clark, Kenzie Cromer, Caden Cromer, Kylie St. Germaine, Misty St. Germaine, Bryan St. Germaine, Robert Hilton, Jr., Kayla Hilton, Damien Townsend, Brad Stapleton, Jr., McKayla Stapleton, Kaylan Stapleton, Angel Sauls, Hailey Whitlock, Christopher Toole, Andrea Stapleton, David Stapleton, Stephanie Putzer, Brittany Taylor, Neal Taylor, Davis Stapleton, Thames Stapleton, Edie Stapleton, Olivia Stapleton, Brooks Stapleton, Tucker Rabun, Baylee Rabun, Edwin Hilton, Travis Hilton, Daniel Hilton, Joshua Johnson, Amber Johnson, Anna Routon and Cody Routon, sister, Sandra (Marshall) Burns, Campobello, SC and two brothers, John Allen Humphries, Louisville, KY and Lewis "Fluke" Mitchell, Conway, SC. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Stapleton was preceded in death by her son, David A. Stapleton. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3:00 PM at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home with The Rev. Marion Britton officiating. Interment will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
