AIKEN, SC -- CHAPLAIN DONALD RAY MORRIS, Lt. Col. (Ret.) US Army, 78, beloved husband of Janet Elizabeth Spitzer Morris, died on Thursday, May 10th, 2012 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
Born in Harrisonburg, VA, he was the son of the late Alexander and Irene Hensley Morris. He was a resident of Aiken, SC for the last 11 years. A former Marine, retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel and Army Chaplain, he served in the Korean War, Vietnam War, and Operation Desert Storm earning many decorations including the Bronze Star.
Survivors, in addition to his wife include a daughter, Ruth (Jim) Masella, Evans, GA; a son, David Scott Morris, Minneapolis, MN; three grandchildren, Alec Masella, Evan Donald Masella, and Lauren Morris-Mattox and one sister, Dorothy Morris Kinghorn, Littleton, CO.
Upon retirement from the military, Don served as the pastor of the 1st Christian Church of Clifton Forge, VA for 13 years. He also later served as pastor of the 1st Christian Church of Aiken and was active in the regional church in South Carolina.
Chaplain Morris was a good and faithful servant who loved the Lord, his family, and his country.
A memorial service with Full Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, May 16th, 2012 at 3:00 PM from the First Christian Church, Aiken with the Rev. Ken McDonald and Rev. Milton Summerall officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
A memorial service will also be held at the 1st Christian Church, Clifton Forge, VA on Saturday, June 2nd, 2012 at 3:00 PM.
