AIKEN, SC -- PAUL A. OXTON, 88, died Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Anchor Health & Rehabilitation.
A native of Rockland, Maine, Mr. Oxton was a son of the late Edmund and Susan Averill Oxton. His wife of 60 years, Loretta Albrecht Oxton died in 2010. Paul was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 15th Division of the Army Air Corps. He was awarded 3 Bronze Stars, 1 Silver Star and 2 Presidential Unit Citations. He had a long career in the horse industry, first as a jockey and then as a trainer. Paul worked with Green Tree Stables in Belmont, NY, Aiken, and Hialeah, FL for 30 years. He was a member of VFW Post 5877 in Aiken.
Survivors include his son, Gary Oxton and fiancée, Tevis Hoffman of Martinez, GA, a sister-in-law, Glennis Oxton, Rockland, ME and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from Noon till 1:00 PM Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 PM Tuesday in Southlawn
